Amazonian Guatambu

In the distant Amazon Basin grows a tall tree called New Gold Sandalwood (Amazonian Guatambu). This tree prefers hot, rainy, and fertile soil environments. Mature trees can exceed 25 meters. A cross-section of the wood clearly shows heartwood as a warm yellow or straw color, while sapwood is slightly lighter in hue. Although New Gold Sandalwood has no distinct unique odor, the timber has significant luster, straight grain, fine texture, is heavy, and has high strength. Wood products made from it have a warm, moist color and a brilliant, crystal-clear feel.
